There are many uniforms around at school: the guard, the cleaner, the student, the janitor and the football trainer all wear special clothing for a reason. What is the purpose of these dress codes, and what happens if you change them? How can you make everyone look the same and still show who they are?
Objectives: with the tension between uniformity and individuality as main thread, we will work through themes such as authority, professionalism, difference and universality. We will make students experience how design works with rules and variations, and show them ways to design connections without glossing over difference.
Activities: short exercises, film screenings, discussions, development of a design project from brief to product.
Product: a series of uniforms that belong together but are not necessarily the same.
